Rhyl - 16.8.2013

Rhyl is not the bustling seaside place I remember as a child, where once I had rode on donkeys on the beach, attempted to build sandcastles, the water pool and long walk from one end of the front to the other where the fair was. We passed the many smells in the air of doughnuts, chips and burgers mixed in with sweet sticky candy floss. The varying sounds of enticing amusement arcade and echoing calls from crowds of seagulls are still there but don't provoke the memories I have in the same way. In some strange way Rhyl now stirs feeling of sadness and loss to me; maybe it's is the power of memories that lie within and absent familiarity to accompany them.

The postcard image is taken from the blog below,
to find out more about Rhyl take a look.

The new Rhyl Harbour bridge

The bridge will also be known as Pont y Ddraig ( Dragons Bridge )
This was after a competition was held for local schools where Leon Jones won

The renowned Blue Bridge that connects Rhyl with Towyn and Abergele

The harbour looking a little bare waiting for the tide to come back in

I enjoyed watching these siblings having fun playing on the beach making memories together.

One of the many seagulls that can make you feel like you are in a scene from Alfred Hitchcock's film 'The Birds'

This pair at first glance look like they're looking for buried treasure but are actually starting to build a sandcastle.

It was a nice sight to see the old favourite of children still building sandcastles. At least modern technology hasn't replaced this activity.

This one looks like it had been crafted with great care.

This is a favourite building of mine that since a demolished building has gone from in front of it, has  more exposure.

Bridge Cafe  - Bev an Ellen
8 Kinmel St. Rhyl

If you are looking for somewhere to eat, this is the place to go with friendly service from the sisters and great food. You will certainly leave here feeling like you have known them for years and will find yourself returning.

Also a good place to go and have a look at is

Art Galleries & Fine Art Dealers
12 Wellington Road, Rhyl, LL18 1BG

Here I enjoyed looking at the work of other artists such as Margret Clarkson, who's work captivated me.
Every image just captures an era beautifully. These images are exactly what I would have liked to have captured in photography.

Now that I am on the Masters degree course I am blessed to be able to look more into Margaret's work and explore the possibilities of seeing how I can incorporate aspects of her work into helping me produce the images I'd like to develop. Capturing  past eras that to some extent are still visible in today's environment.
