Glyndwr Studio open doors Visit 14.9.12 (5of16)

Please note!

Copyright belongs to the artist whose work is shown below and also to myself as the photographer!

Morven Browne

Morven is a 3rd year student specialising in jewellery and metalwork

These two images shows annealing a piece of copper to soften the metal (annealing produces an oxide on the surface of the metal which is then removed by putting the metal in an acid solution)

Forming the shape over a steel mandrel

The texture on the new shape

using a texturing hammer to create a texture on the surface of the metal and to make the resulting pieces of work more personal to Morven

Polished with wire wool and then Platinol applied to the surface to darken it

Helen Smith

Helen is a 3rd year mature student studying Applied Arts at Glyndwr University specialising in glass.

Last Summer she made a series of vases  for an exhibition of art and craft from recycled materials.

This vase was a bottle of sparkling elder flower and pomegranate drink, which Helen cut the top of the bottle and sandblasted the design on.

Knot of knots in Hoylake

The image above is taken off the internet to show where Helen's  inspiration for her design came  from, which was the sculpture of the " KNOT OF KNOTS" in Hoylake
